Composition of Decision-Making Body
The Commission consists of nineteen members, all of whom are elected by the member institutions. At least 5 Commissioners shall bring faculty experience and may be a current faculty member, dean, student service staff, librarian, or other academic reflecting the diversity of the region and/or institutional membership. At least 3 of the five shall be current faculty members at the time of their election to the Commission. At least 3 Commissioners shall be representatives of the public, the precise number of whom shall at all times represent at least one seventh of the total membership of the Commission. At least 3 Commissioners shall bring administrative experience and shall be current chief executive officers in a 2-year college or district at the time of their election to the Commission. At least 1 Commissioner shall have expertise in higher education finance. At least 1 Commissioner shall have expertise as a chief instructional officer. At least 1 Commissioner shall be from an independent (not state-sponsored) institution. At least one (1) Commissioner shall be from a secondary educational institution accredited by the Accrediting Commission for Schools (ACS), Western Association of Schools and Colleges and nominated by that Commission. At least one (1) Commissioner shall be from a four-year college or university accredited by the WASC Senior College and University Commission (WSCUC) and nominated by that Commission. At least one (1) Commissioner shall be from an ACCJC accredited institution in the Pacific Islands and nominated by the Pacific Postsecondary Education Council (PPEC). One (1) Commissioner shall be nominated by the California Community Colleges Chancellor’s Office. One (1) Commissioner shall be nominated by the system office of the University of Hawai’i Community Colleges.
